Pompeo Battles Congress After Trump Fiasco in Helsinki

The week after President Donald Trump met Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is questioned by Congress.  Testimony tapes and records show Pompeo ignoring and refusing to provide details of that U.K., NATO and Helsinki trip, and then refusing to answer reasonable questions; saying only that the U.S. foreign policy had not changed.  He also indicated to members who were in that meeting, that it was not any of their business how Donald Trump conducts foreign policy, and refused to confirm or discuss what that policy even is.

Tax Neutrality? Corporate Tax is down, now cap the Dividend and Capital-Gain benefit.

The dividend tax credit has always been defended under the concept of double taxation.  Tax the corporate profit and then tax the shareholder for the distribution of said profit.  And then there is the secondary argument that you need to provide an incentive for an investor to take the risk over buying bonds.

Both arguments are long overdue to be addressed.

Now we see Billion Dollar deficits and not one word about capping the Dividend Tax Credit for the uber wealthy.

NAFTA versus Bilateral Trade

NAFTA may be too complex to save given the different economic, wage and social structures of Canada the United States and Mexico.  We might simply take the existing agreement and break it down into the sections dealing with each country’s trade, dividing it into six bilateral agreements.  Each of the three countries to make an agreement with the other two, following the same wording and intent from the relevant portions of the existing NAFTA agreement.  Then negotiate.

Regardless, the Trump Administration seems determined to rip up the NAFTA agreement and start a trade war based on their arbitrary tariffs on the Canadian softwood industry last spring,

United States attacks Canadian Aviation Industry with 300% tariff

The following is taken from a letter dated September 29, 2017, addressed to; The Most Honorable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, as well as to several other Members of Parliament.

Trump-USA is trying to win with an end-run around NAFTA, using a sledge hammer for negotiations.  Being the little guy, we need to fight back with serious intent, rallying all Canadians to the cause.  A painting by Canadian iconic artist Greg Curnoe (with works in the National Gallery in Ottawa),

Deep Pockets for a Third Party – A 100 year Legacy better than contributing to NPR

Follow up on a previous Post – “America Needs a Three Party System”

Wanted: A billionaire to provide a long-lasting legacy, a hundred-year plan to fund a national Third Party that has a commitment to run government from the middle of the bell-curve of public opinion and Congressional authority.  A hundred-year plan that will provide at least two generations growing up learning about a centrist party where congressional candidates of character have signed a pledge with their Party and their constituents to maintain a moderate stance,

America Needs A Three Party System

At what better place and time to have a third party.  Make its ideology smack in the middle, with no axe to grind other than a platform to govern responsibly and promise to agree with any Republican or Democrat sponsored Bill that makes sense.  A Party whose nominees sign a Norquist type pledge that they will leave their personal biases at the door, voting without any preconceived ideology to advance other than for the “will of the people”. Party philosophy should be simple;

Two Party System – Broken or Flawed?

The human factor in politics and business has not changed much over the last fifty years, as I listen to familiar rhetoric and see the same results, decade after decade.  This is important to consider, as I hope you younger voters don’t come to the same conclusion as you approach your sunset years.  That would mean nothing has changed from my generation.

The value of “Pork” that ends up in almost every Bill is used to persuade a sufficient number of congress people across the isle to vote for the legislation,

Trump’s Arbitrary Trade Policies with Canada won’t change easily

The following is taken from a letter dated April 26, 2017, addressed to; The Most Honorable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, as well as to several other Members of Parliament.

I am appalled the U.S. imposed a tariff on Canadian softwood timber, once again, and our response is to appeal the process that may take years for resolution.   A process the International Tribunal has acquitted us before, successfully each time.

The Trump Administration must view Canada as weak,

Reduce Corporate Taxes with Tax Neutrality

Why do we always want to kill the Golden Goose? Short-term thinking; stupidity; swayed by big money?

Let’s first look at the building of America and Canada in a historical perspective, then try to figure out who is controlling whom?

The Industrial Revolution in England and Europe was well under way at the time immigrant populations moved to North America, bringing inventions, vitality and the spirit that would ultimately create two new nations, Canada and the United States.  With new populations arriving labor was abundant,
